An Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 is on its way, the graphics card has been confirmed at a dedicated Nvidia event. After months of leaks, rumors and speculation, the graphics card is set to be released in October. And the graphics card looks much better than most hoped.

At the moment, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 remains the most affordable graphics card in the new Ampere lineup, which will cost you $ 499 (32500r + VAT). And while “affordable” is a rather relative term – the video card is quite expensive for many – it is not going to compete with the price tag of the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. Even better: despite the lower price tag, it shames the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti, the characteristics are so good that they cannot be true.

The video memory of the new graphics card is slower than the rest in the Ampere line, new rumors indicate that the development of the RTX 3070 “Super” and RTX 3070 Ti is underway. However, most people keen on the new technologies implemented by the RTX 3000 will find the RTX 3070 the best graphics card of 2020 and 2021. | RTX 3070 RELEASE DATE

Nvidia announced the RTX 3070 alongside the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 at its September 1st event. However, the budget model won’t come alongside the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 or RTX 3090.

Instead, it looks like Nvidia is sticking to a split release this time around, with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 coming out one of the last, sometime in October 2020. Unlike the RTX 3080 with a September 17 release date or the RTX 3090 (September 24), however, there is no exact date yet.

The RTX 3070 is the cheapest of the three graphics cards presented by Nvidia, at $ 499 (RUR 32,500 + VAT). Not the cheapest graphics card on the market, but considering the performance claimed by the manufacturer – according to which the RTX 3070 outperforms the RTX 2080 Ti (on paper) – it could be a lot more expensive.

Don’t take the (relatively) low price for granted, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 is exactly what you need. With a whopping 5888 CUDA cores clocked at 1.73GHz, expect a theoretical 20 teraflops – more powerful than the RTX 2080 Ti, but only on paper for now.

What can hold the new budget graphics card against the 2080 Ti is the limited amount of 8GB GDDR6 video memory on a 256-bit bus.

This figure can be compared to the GeForce RTX 2070 Super, the graphics card that the RTX 3070 will replace, but it only offered 2560 CUDA cores, 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory with a bandwidth of 14 Gbps, a clock speed of 1605 MHz and a Boost frequency of 1770 MHz.

So, in essence, a much more powerful graphics card is entering the market with the same memory as in the previous generation, which may disappoint many, but there is no reason for memory yet. In our testing, many 4K games do not yet use 8GB of VRAM, with a few exceptions.

However, be aware of the optimization as the new graphics card comes with the Nvidia RTX IO API. This solution will work with the new Microsoft DirectStorage API to optimize the communication between storage and graphics card. Ideally, this means that the card will have to store less data in video memory in the first place, which will reduce performance losses.

Unlike the RTX 3080, which boasts high power consumption gains, all the way up to 320W, the RTX 3070 is slightly more understated, with a TDP of 220W. That’s still more than the 185W RTX 2070 Founders Edition, but not too much for you to have to replace your PSU.

In fact, the increase in the number of CUDA cores with the simultaneous increase in frequency means that the RTX 3070 will probably be considered as the most energy efficient graphics card from the Nvidia Ampere series. We haven’t had a chance to test the performance yet, so we can only rely on the specs provided by Nvidia, but it appears that the RTX 3070 is capable of making 4K gaming more accessible.
