Microsoft: Windows 11 Product Satisfaction and Adoption Highest Ever

Microsoft Chief Product Officer Panos Panay gave a keynote address at Computex 2022, revealing that Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system has the highest product satisfaction of any version of the Windows operating system.

Microsoft released Windows 11 in October 2021 to the public. The operating system has been released as a free upgrade for devices with eligible Windows 10 licenses and as a commercial version that people around the world can buy.

This month, Microsoft changed the status of the operating system to wide deployment, a status that organizations around the world use as a sign of deployment.

In the keynote address, which Panay held with Nicole Dezen, CVP of Device Partner Sales at Microsoft, Panay reiterated that quality is top of mind for the team.

Here is the most important thing for our team, quality, quality, quality. people using it [Windows 11] they are finding the quality in the product, which has been incredible. That also translates into satisfaction with the product. That’s the highest product satisfaction of any version of Windows we’ve ever shipped.

In January 2022, Panay used similar words to highlight the quality aspect of the operating system:

Windows 11 also has the highest quality and product satisfaction scores of any version of Windows we’ve ever released. Product quality was a big focus for the team, and we took a deliberate and incremental approach to how we rolled out the update.

It is not clear how Panay and Microsoft define quality. Windows 11 shipped with its fair share of issues, including one that affected performance on AMD devices by up to 15% and another that affected printing on Brother printers.

We have recorded a total of 24 officially confirmed Windows 11 issues since the release of the operating system.

Adoption of Windows 11

Customers are upgrading to Windows 11 at double the rate Microsoft recorded for its Windows 10 operating system. Considering that Microsoft used to aggressively push Windows 10 to customer devices to meet the goal of 1 billion Windows devices in 2-3 years, the suggested growth is impressive. If you add the fact that Windows 11 cannot be easily installed on incompatible devices, it’s even more of a feat.

Microsoft officially released Windows 10 on July 29, 2015. A month later, on August 27, Microsoft revealed that Windows 10 was running on 75 million devices. Windows 11 would need to be running on 150 million devices a month after launch at this stage to see double the rate of adoption.

The growth of Windows 10 slowed down soon after. It took nearly two years for the operating system to reach the 500 million device milestone. Microsoft has not disclosed the number of devices running Windows 11 since the operating system’s launch.
