When Apple’s CEO Tim Cook claimed that the third-generation iPad could deliver a gaming experience in class with pure gaming consoles, many in the audience shook their heads, but perhaps there is a bit of truth in the statement.
In a chart published by Anandtech, Nvidia demonstrates the rapid development in the field and estimates that mobile platforms can deliver higher graphics performance than the Xbox 360 within 1-2 years.
The dark green line (mobile) begins with the introduction of the first Iphone released in 2007, rises to Tegra 2 and increases further with the launch of Tegra 3. Future variants of Nvidia’s mobile processor are expected to run past today’s gaming consoles in the period 2013–2014.
