NVIDIA, check the GeForce RTX 3050 for OEMs: less performing but the name does not change

NVIDIA created a version of the GeForce RTX 3050 reserved for OEM, that is, to manufacturers of pre-assembled PCs. The board it is slightly less performing compared to the standard model already on the retail market, but despite the difference it has the same name as that solution. Let’s see what the differences are.

The GeForce RTX 3050 “OEM Edition” features fewer CUDA cores, which they pass and 2560 and 2304 (11% less), and one clock frequency that drops by about 2%. We then go from a base clock of 1.55 GHz and a boost clock of 1.78 GHz to values of respectively 1,51 e 1,76 GHz. All other specifications (8 GB of memory, 128-bit bus and TDP) remain unchanged.

The identical TDP between the OEM and retail versions should allow the GPU Boost 4.0 algorithm to have leeway to make the fewer CUDA cores and lower rated frequencies a “false problem”. On the performance front there will be some difference, but it could turn out to be so subtle as to be practically imperceptible in real use.

The existence of this model does not represent a headache for those who buy custom RTX 3050s on the retail market, while it could be for those who buy a pre-assembled gaming PC or who in the future will turn to the second-hand market.

NVIDIA’s choice to offer a GeForce RTX 3050 with these specifications is probably due to the desire to maximize the use of GA106 GPUs, also using chips with defective units. It is certainly not new for the American designer since with the 3000 series it already offers several variants, let’s take for example the case of the RTX 3080, even if the two available options are clearly distinguishable starting from the memory size (12 and 10 GB) .
