Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 pictured

It will be a hot summer, not only on the thermometer but also for all hardware enthusiasts. Nvidia has already got off to a flying start with the Geforce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 “Pascal”, and the AMD RX 480 “Polaris” is coming soon.

Now it seems that additional models are underway. A user on Reddit has captured what appears to be the Geforce GTX 1060 in the picture. Judging from the picture, it is a reference model with coolers in the same “stealth theme” as for GTX 1080 and GTX 1070.

Other data, such as specifications and clock frequencies, however, shine with their absence. Previous rumors say that the Geforce GTX 1060 is based on a really scaled-down variant of the graphics circuit GP104, with halved number of CUDA cores set against the flagship GTX 1080.

Another possibility is that the model is based on the GP106 graphics circuit, and thus becomes a more direct successor to the GM206 in the Geforce GTX 960. A basically smaller circuit is cheaper to manufacture for Nvidia, which in theory allows for tight price tags.

A possible Geforce GTX 1060 is likely to be a direct challenger to the AMD RX 480 “Polaris”. Nvidia currently lacks an updated model in the segment, where the entry-level variant for the Pascal generation is significantly more expensive Geforce GTX 1070.
