In the not-too-distant future, Nvidia will launch the new flagship Geforce GTX 1080, which on several previous occasions has already had time to be a model in front of the camera. Now more pictures are published of the reference design “Founder’s Edition”, this time with both cooler and baking sheet removed.
The circuit board itself is a relatively low-key story with fewer components than Nvidia’s reference designer for the Geforce GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti. At the center is the GP104 graphics circuit with associated GDDR5X memory circuits, each of which has a capacity of 8 Gb (1 GB) and a clock frequency of 2,500 MHz (10,000 MHz efficient).
To the right of this is the power section and a 6-phase design (5 + 1), compared to 4 + 1 for GTX 980 and 6 + 2 for GTX 980 Ti. For power supply from the power supply, a single 8-pin PCI Express is marked, but also an unused space on the circuit board. Maybe to give partners the opportunity to solder an extra connection there to create more overclock-friendly models in a cost-effective way.
Sales of the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 will begin on May 27. First out is the company’s reference design Founder’s Edition for $ 699, equivalent to approximately SEK 7,100 including VAT. This will shortly be followed up by tailor-made variants from partners for just over a thousand kroner less.
