Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super in the test

The GeForce GTX 1660 Super is a GeForce GTX 1660 with 75 percent more memory bandwidth. Despite the GPU being adopted unchanged, it achieves the performance of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. In combination with the barely rising price, this results in a very quick combination.

Nvidia continues the fresh cell treatment in the Turing portfolio with the nickname "Super" as a distinguishing mark. However, the GeForce RTX 2060 Super and 2070 Super (test) and GeForce RTX 2080 Super (test) are still not followed by a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Super, but the first Super variant of an entry-level model: the GeForce GTX 1660 Super.

The GeForce GTX 1660 Super is placed in the portfolio between the GeForce GTX 1660 (test) and the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, which only separate 14 percent performance difference in the editorial test circuit in Full HD. All three models will continue to be offered.

GeForce GTX 1660 with RTX 2060 memory

To implement the GeForce GTX 1660 Super, Nvidia virtually took a GeForce GTX 1660 and donated the graphics card to the still 192-bit interface GDDR6 memory with 7,000 MHz instead of a much slower GDDR5 memory with 4,000 MHz. It works even faster than the memory on the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, with 336 GB / s it is on the level of the GeForce RTX 2060. The GPU and its clock speeds have not been adjusted. There is no faster storage without a disadvantage: The maximum power consumption is 125 watts. That's 5 watts more than the GeForce GTX 1660 and also the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. An eight-pin power connector is provided by Nvidia.

The 75 percent increase in memory bandwidth is intended to bring the Super to the performance level of the Ti – with a lower recommended price of 245 euros instead of 299 euros for the Ti. The GeForce GTX 1660 Super thus has the potential to offer a significantly better price than the other offer. To offer money.

BitcoinMinersHashrate tests whether the potential is used in practice using the Asus GeForce GTX 1660 Super Dual Evo OC, which is close to Nvidia's reference specifications, and a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Super Gaming OC, which is slightly higher in terms of performance, cooling system and price is located. Both models face the GeForce GTX 1660 and GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. There is currently no modern opponent from AMD to the graphics card.

GeForce GTX 1660 Super Gaming OC vs. GeForce GTX 1660 Super Dual Evo OC

The Asus GeForce GTX 1660 Super Dual Evo OC in detail

Despite its long name, the GeForce GTX 1660 Super Dual Evo OC is a mid-range product in the GeForce GTX 1660 Super portfolio from Asus. The graphics card is largely based on Nvidia's specifications, but is equipped with a relatively large cooler. The model is expected to go on sale for 245 euros and thus corresponds to Nvidia's MSRP.

The GeForce GTX 1660 Super Dual Evo OC is relatively short at 24 cm, but it is quite high and also quite wide with the 2.7-slot cooler. There is, however, more cooling material than you might expect from the length. The two large aluminum radiators are connected to each other and to the base plate with two copper direct-touch heat pipes.

Despite the dual series, there are Strix fans

Two axial fans with a diameter of 85 mm are installed on the graphics card, which are examples that Asus otherwise uses on models of the Strix series. They start their work at a GPU temperature of 55 degrees Celsius, before the fans stop for silent operation.

Asus runs a rather conservative program in terms of clock rates. The base clock is 1,530 MHz, the average turbo is 1,830 MHz. That is 45 MHz more than Nvidia's reference specifications. However, the graphics card must not consume more than 125 watts, which in turn corresponds to the standard. If you want a bit more performance, you can activate the OC mode in Asus' own tool GPUTweak II, then the turbo clock is at 1,860 MHz, the power target is raised by 10 percent.

The graphics card offers RGB lighting in the form of a small RGB strip. In addition to a DisplayPort and an HDMI interface, there is also a DVI connection – nowadays this is rarely found on new graphics cards.

The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Super Gaming OC in detail

The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Super Gaming OC is a bit more geared towards a "higher" performance without becoming the classic enthusiast model, which would also have a hard time in the price range of a GeForce GTX 1660 Super. Gigabyte could not clarify in advance how expensive the graphics card will be. In any case, it is more than 245 euros.

The GeForce GTX 1660 Super Gaming OC is 28 cm longer than the competitor model, but also less high and less wide with a 2.0-slot cooler. The WindForce cooler consists of three aluminum radiators. The elements are connected via four copper heat pipes that rest directly on the GPU.

Three axial fans with a diameter of 75 mm ensure low temperatures, with all specimens running in opposite directions, which is said to improve the air flow. The rather narrow fans turn off at low temperatures and then ensure absolute silence. An eight-pin power connector is also sufficient for this graphics card.

Gigabyte has increased the power limit for the Gaming OC

The clock speeds of the GeForce GTX 1660 Super Gaming OC are slightly higher than those of the Asus accelerator. The average turbo is 1,860 MHz, 75 MHz higher than the reference specifications and 30 MHz more than the Dual Evo from Asus. The envisaged leap in performance should be achieved through a higher power limit, which is 140 instead of 125 watts ex works.

The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Super Gaming OC also offers RGB lighting, which is also hardly worth mentioning. The graphics card adheres to the standard for the monitor connections: there are three DisplayPort and one HDMI.
