Nvidia Geforce GTX 2050 finds out on the web

At the time of writing, Nvidia’s recent Geforce RTX 2000 series consists of four models in the upper price and performance segment, where the least powerful model is the Geforce RTX 2070 with a recommended price of around SEK 6,000. The product family is expected to be expanded shortly with the mid-range Geforce RTX 2060 card, which is said to be the simplest model to be equipped with the prefix “RTX”.

The database for the performance test Geekbench now shows the results for an unknown graphics card signed Nvidia, and according to a twitter post from Tum apisak it is a Geforce GTX 2050 or Geforce GTX 1150. The card is equipped with 14 SM clusters for a total of 896 CUDA cores, which are accompanied by 4 GB of graphics memory.

The upcoming Geforce RTX 2060 will be equipped with a slightly scaled-down variant of the graphics circuit TU106, which in full-scale design has 2,304 CUDA cores and is used in Geforce RTX 2070. The large step down to 896 cores instead indicates that the new card can be based on a another Turing circuit called TU107.

There are many indications that Nvidia will split the latest generation of graphics cards into two families, with leaner models returning to the Geforce GTX. Materials for marketing the Geforce GTX 1160 reveal that these variants are still based on the Turing architecture, but that the architecture’s parade number ray tracing cut away.

In addition to the name of the series, the details of the name scheme for the simpler graphics cards are unclear, but the Geforce GTX 1150 or Geforce GTX 2050 are two possible candidates for the new addition to the database. The card’s maximum clock frequency is specified at 1,560 MHz, while the result is slightly lower than for the Geforce GTX 1060.

Nvidia has not yet officially unveiled any Turing-based graphics cards in the mid-range or entry-level segment, but the Geforce RTX 2060 and the re-introduction of the Geforce GTX series are said to take place sometime in January 2019.
