Nvidia is preparing Geforce GTX 1060 and GTX 1050 Ti for laptops

When Nvidia launches graphics cards for desktops and laptops, these are traditionally based on the same architecture but differ in complexity, clock frequencies and more. This is because laptops have other conditions in terms of cooling and heat generation. But with the energy-efficient Pascal generation, this may change.

According to the laptop-focused publication Laptop Media, Nvidia will invest in desktop graphics circuits for future laptops. According to the information, future laptops will use Geforce GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1060, ie no M-suffix after the product name, which indicates that there are no scaled-down versions of the desktops.

The code name for the GTX 1050 Ti should be N17PG1, and this circuit should be equipped with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory which is connected over a 128 bit wide memory bus. Big brother GTX 1060 will be given the code name N17EG1 and this will be equipped with 6 GB of GDDR5 memory which is connected over a 192 bit wide memory bus.

This information goes against previous rumors that Nvidia will actually launch a mobile variant of Geforce GTX 1080 called GTX 1080M. If this turns out to be true, it may be because the more advanced and energy-hungry GTX 1080 circuit is not as suitable for use in portable formats without adaptations.

According to the publication Videocardz, both the GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1060 for laptops will be launched in August, which is in line with reports from retailers about when Pascal-equipped laptops will reach the market.
