Nvidia lowers price for Geforce RTX 2060 - contrasts with AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT

The fact that AMD finally unveiled the long-mentioned Radeon RX 5600 XT became one of the big news during CES 2020. With a recommended price tag of 279 USD, the graphics card is supposed to go up against the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1660 Super in the lower middle class.

To meet AMD’s upcoming launch, Nvidia is quietly choosing to lower the price of the significantly more potent Geforce RTX 2060 graphics card, from the previous $ 349 to $ 299. On Nvidia’s Swedish website, the graphics card in the reference version Founder’s Edition is listed for SEK 3,549, compared to SEK 4,799 for RTX 2060 Super.

Officially, Nvidia has not yet announced the price reduction of the Geforce RTX 2060. However, several partner manufacturers have already announced their own models for the lower price point, including EVGA, which at CES 2020 at the beginning of the year showed its new variant RTX 2060 KO for just 299 USD .

The new price means that the Geforce RTX 2060 will add a few hundred bucks to AMD’s upcoming mid-range class. At the same time, Nvidia’s graphics cards can be expected to deliver more performance and offer features to support ray tracing, something AMD completely lacks in its Radeon RX 5000 series but also the GTX 1660 Super which is at the same price as AMD’s upcoming newcomer.

The AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT is built around a scaled-down variant of the graphics circuit Navi 10 used in the RX 5700 XT and RX 5700. Just like the RX 5700, the upcoming graphics card has 2,304 stream processors, but with lower clock frequencies. At the same time, the memory bus is scaled down from 256 to 192 bits, where the amount of GDDR6 graphics memory is 6 GB instead of 8 GB for the RX 5700 series.

The launch of the Radeon RX 5600 XT takes place on January 21 and in Swedish stores, the model is expected to start a little over SEK 3,000 including VAT.
