Nvidia releases tools to update displayport firmware

The graphics card manufacturer Nvidia has previously had concerns with the implementation of support for the latest section’s Displayport standards. Among other things, problems arose a few years ago with HTC Vive and Displayport, while users in recent years encountered various other bugs with Displayport.

Some of these can be fixed with a driver update, but some require more comprehensive solutions instead. Therefore, Nvidia has now released a tool that automatically updates the graphics card firmware to prevent, among other things, freezes at startup and black screen. This applies to both Nvidia’s Founders Edition and cards from partner manufacturers.

Nvidia Graphics Firmware Update Tool runs directly in Windows, after which it first checks if an update is necessary. If so, the driver is disabled, and then the program flashes the graphics card firmware on its own. When the process is complete, a restart is required, and then the card will hopefully work smoothly with both Displayport 1.3 and 1.4.

The tool can be downloaded directly from Nvidia’s website, and is aimed at the Maxwell and Pascal architectures.
