Nvidia reveals performance level and weak availability for Geforce RTX 3090

Following the high-profile unveiling of the Geforce RTX 3000 family, Nvidia followed up with the launch of the series’ first product to reach the market, the Geforce RTX 3080 Founders Edition, which in SweClocker’s test was called an unusually large step forward in terms of performance. The positive reception led to high pressure on Nvidia’s online store and customers who ended up in queuing systems at retailers. It looks like the same story may be repeated with the Geforce RTX 3090 top card.

In a post on Nvidia’s news site, Nvidia describes the Geforce RTX 3090 as a “BFGPU” for creators, researchers, and gamers with extreme performance needs. The company highlights its 10,496 CUDA cores and 24 GB of GDDR6 memory as the resources that make the RTX 3090 the fastest card for gamers and creators. Interestingly enough, Nvidia also reveals how the RTX 3090 compares to the slightly simpler sibling RTX 3080 in terms of performance.

For 4K gaming, the GeForce RTX 3090 is about 10-15% faster on average than the GeForce RTX 3080, and up to 50% faster than the TITAN RTX.

According to Nvidia’s data, the Geforce RTX 3090 is approximately 10 to 15 percent faster than the RTX 3080 for playing in 4K UHD resolution, and up to 50 percent faster than the Titan RTX for which it is also a replacement. Here, the company reveals in advance that the difference in performance does not correspond to the price increase, where the difference in the number of CUDA cores matches the performance share better than the amount of graphics memory. Geforce RTX 3090 costs from SEK 16,800 while RTX 3080 goes for SEK 7,825.

SweClockers has previously reported signs from retailers that the availability of the Geforce RTX 3090 will be more limited than it was for the RTX 3080 at launch, and this is also confirmed by Nvidia in advance. The confirmation comes in the form of a message that is sent out to everyone who has registered an interest in the card. The company expects high demand and says it has a limited number of graphics cards in stock, but that more will be made available “soon”.

The fact that the company itself points this out to interested customers probably means that the first round of available cards sells out quickly. Geforce RTX 3090 can be ordered in Nvidia’s online store from today, 24 September at 15.00 Swedish time.

Are you going to try to order a Geforce RTX 3090 today? You may have already bought an RTX 3080, or are you even waiting for AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 series? Share in the comments!
