Nvidia says 29% of its player base upgraded to an RTX card, 71% of gamers still use the GTX series

Everyone is aware of video card prices right? Prices are slowly coming down, but they still cost much more than the manufacturer’s suggested price. Although it seems that this does not stop people from buying them. I say all this because Nvidia has revealed that when it comes to buying new graphics cards, gamers don’t mind paying $300 more than the model they’re replacing made.

Nvidia Senior Vice President Jeff Fisher said, “Millions of gamers with GeForce cards have upgraded their GPUs to a 30-series card.”

“The GPU offers more value than ever. Based on our data, they are spending $300 more than they paid for the graphics card they replaced,” he added.

71% of gamers still use GTX graphics cards

Many people are willing and able to afford the new cards, but Fisher revealed an interesting stat, only 29% of the company’s player base upgraded to RTX, with the rest still using a card from their GTX series.

We only have to look at the most recent Steam poll for evidence of what Fisher is saying. The GeForce GTX 1060 has been the most popular graphics card among entrants since displacing the GTX 750 from the top spot in December 2017. Additionally, there are only two RTX cards in the top ten on Steam: the RTX 2060 which is in the fourth place and the RTX 3060 portable GPU that is in eighth place.

The GPU market will be shaken when Nvidia’s RTX 4000 series, codenamed Lovelace, and AMD’s RDNA 3 GPUs arrive. In the case of the green team, CFO Colette Kress has hinted that both the RTX 3000 series and the new cards will be produced and sold together, in short coexist. She also stated that availability will improve in the second half of the year, possibly starting in the third quarter.

If Kress’s prediction of improved component supply is true, gamers should pay less for their cards, but we hope the RTX 4000 series won’t be for everyone.
