Nvidia’s new graphics demo A New Dawn

While game developers are busy making the latest titles work with as many different computer systems as possible, Nvidia’s programmers can take the turns and exclude everything but the very latest. In the upcoming graphics demo A New Dawn the possibilities with the architecture Kepler are demonstrated.

The first Dawn was released in connection with the perhaps not so successful Geforce FX series in 2003 and demonstrated, among other things, vertex shaders, diffuse specular lighting and various variants of color maps, the latter to produce realistic skin tones.

In the new Dawn, it is instead about complex geometry, advanced light effects, tessellation and not least physics acceleration with PhysX Fur. The river’s head is adorned with no less than 40,000 individual hairs and the environment is made up of four million triangles. The whole glory is also tessellated to further increase the richness of detail.

Not entirely unexpectedly, a real computer system is required to run a A New Dawn. The recommended system requirements are no less than two Geforce GTX 670 in SLI, a dual-core 2.5 GHz processor, 4 GB of memory, 1 GB of storage and Windows 7 or Vista. The actual graphics demo will take a little longer, however, and will only be published later in the month.
