OneNote Win Shift + S not working: OneNote Not Working: Fixes common OneNote issues in Windows 10 OneNote is Microsoft’s cloud note-taking app. It can work and store notes locally, but since it’s a Microsoft product, it has the added benefit of OneDrive and Microsoft 365 integration that signs in when you sign in to OneNote with your Microsoft account. .

OneNote is simple for the most part and doesn’t compare to Evernote however, it’s more advanced than the Notes app you find on macOS. It has just the right amount of features to make it useful, but not too much to make it too complicated to understand.

How to fix OneNote not working

OneNote isn’t a complex application, but it does have its fair share of problems. Most of the users report that they are unable to sync their notes which means that the app is useful for them when using it from different systems. If you’re having trouble syncing OneNote or getting it to work properly, try the fixes below.

OneNote issues (Windows 10)

1. Reset OneNote

This patch applies. to the UWP version of OneNote. If it doesn’t sync notes, the app doesn’t launch, or crashes frequently, you need to reset the app. You will not lose any notes or data.

  1. Open the app Settings with the Win + I keyboard shortcut.
  2. Access to Applications.
  3. Select the tab Applications and Features.
  4. Scroll down and select OneNote.
  5. Click on Advanced.
  6. Scroll down and click on Reset.

2. Force OneNote sync

If OneNote isn’t syncing, whether it’s the UWP version or the desktop version, you can force sync by adding a new page to OneNote. The text may not be synchronized, but the new page will force the synchronization to start.

  1. Open OneNot e.
  2. In the column Sections, click Add Section.
  3. In the column Pages, click Add Page.
  4. Close OneNote and reopen it.

3. Log out and log back in

The OneNote app for Windows 10 needs a Microsoft account to sync your notes across all devices. If you recently changed the account password or updated other account information, it may prevent the app from syncing. Log out and log back in.

  1. Open OneNote.
  2. Click on your name top right.
  3. In the window that opens, click on Logout under your account.

4. Install Microsoft 365 and Windows 10 updates

The OneNote desktop app is part of Microsoft 365 while OneNote for Windows 10 is specifically designed for the operating system. Between these two versions, there may be pending updates for Microsoft 365 or Windows 10 preventing OneNote from syncing.

  1. Open the app Settings with the Win + I keyboard shortcut.
  2. Go to Update and security.
  3. Select Windows Update.
  4. Click on Check for updates.
  5. Install all updates available.

5. Uninstall and reinstall OneNote

If OneNote doesn’t sync, you can always uninstall and reinstall the app. The process will be different depending on the version of the app you are using.

For OneNote for Windows 10 (the UWP version), follow these steps.

  1. Open the app Settings with the Win + I keyboard shortcut.
  2. Access to Applications.
  3. Select the tab Applications and Features.
  4. Scroll down and select OneNote.
  5. Click on Uninstall.
  6. Install the app from the Microsoft Store.

For the desktop version of OneNote, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Control panel.
  2. Go to Programs> Uninstall a program.
  3. Select Microsoft 365 and click on the Uninstall button up.
  4. Download the Microsoft 365 installer and reinstall all apps, including OneNote.

6. Supprimer Setting.dat

This hotfix applies to OneNote for Windows 10. Try removing the Settings.dat file for OneNote.

  1. Open theFile Explorer and paste this in the address bar: %localappdata% and press enter.
  2. Go to this file : PackagesMicrosoft.Office.OneNote_8wekyb3d8bbweSettings.
  3. Delete the Settings.dat file.
  4. Close and reopen OneNote.

7. Delete OneNote cache

This hotfix applies to the desktop version of OneNote.

  1. Open OneNote.
  2. Go to File> Options.
  3. Select the tab Save and save.
  4. Copy it path under Cache File Location.
  5. Close OneNote.
  6. Open the file explorer.
  7. Go to path of the cache file you copied.
  8. Delete the files here.
  9. Open OneNote.

OneNote issues can be fixed (conclusion)

OneNote normally has syncing issues, but they don’t last long. Creating a new page or uploading a large image in a note can often trigger a new sync.
