RTX Graphics Cards Gain Momentum, Led by RTX 2060

According to the latest hardware report from Valve.

It looks like Nvidia’s new RTX graphics cards are starting to gain traction in terms of sales, at least according to the latest figures from the Steam Hardware Survey.

March statistics show that the most affordable RTX GPU, the GeForce RTX 2060, offers the highest performance of any GPU used by gamers on Steam.

The RTX 2060 jumped 0.27% in March, which is 50% higher than the second-highest user base graphics card, the GTX 1070, which posted a 0.18% increase.

Before we get too carried away, however, the RTX 2060 actually has a 0.27% market share – in other words, the share was negligible in the previous month.

So, there is still a long way to go, but this is a positive sign for Nvidia, which also underpins the successes of the RTX 2070 and RTX 2080.

The RTX 2070 actually saw the fourth-largest gain of any graphics card at 0.15%, while the 2080 saw a 0.1% gain. Again, however, the overall market share of these video cards is relatively small at 0.65% and 0.5%, respectively.

By comparison, the current king of the market, the GTX 1060, is used by 15.58% of Steam players, well ahead of the second place with the GTX 1050 Ti (9.68%) and GTX 1050 (5.31%).

Remember that this is the top 3 graphics performers, so the share held by the rest of the graphics cards is relatively small, thanks to the rather diverse range. By the way, the market share of the top three this month declined by 0.3%, 0.15%, and 0.03% in the order of the GTX 1060, 1050 Ti and 1050 respectively.

Interestingly, other latest-gen Nvidia graphics cards have gained popularity: the GTX 1070 in fourth place climbed 0.18%, the GTX 1080 is up 0.07%, and the GTX 1080 Ti is up 0.08% – presumably As prices for these video cards drop, they are becoming a tempting proposition for gamers.

AMD’s most popular graphics card, the Radeon RX 580, only holds 1.1% of the market and sits in 13th place on Steam, although it posted an impressive 0.16% gain in March.

We’ve heard multiple times about AMD’s declining share lately when it comes to the graphics card market, as players seem to have lost patience waiting for the new AMD Navi graphics cards (Radeon VII isn’t enough).

Given the big picture of the market and the uptick in the use of new RTX graphics cards noted here, Nvidia can no doubt expect sales to pick up. And while the RTX 2060 in particular has taken a big step forward, it will be interesting to see if the progression changes with the release of cheaper Turing graphics cards (namely the affordable GTX models led by the GTX 1660 Ti).

It would seem that no matter what happens, all the dividends will go to the treasury of Nvidia. We can only keep our fingers crossed for AMD Navi as soon as possible, graphics cards should be launched soon – possibly in July, after the Computex show at the end of May – according to the rumor mill.
