Russian energy companies want to reduce the load on imported turbines

MOSCOW, 21 Sep — PRIME. The energy companies notified the System Operator of the UES (SO UES) of the need to save the resource of 21 foreign-made gas turbine units (GTUs) with a total capacity of 2.4 GW in October, the energy dispatcher said.

“Participants in the wholesale electricity and capacity market submitted notifications to the System Operator about the need to save the life of the gas turbine unit (CCGT) in October 2022 in relation to 21 units of generating equipment with a total installed capacity of 2,406 MW,” the message says.

In connection with the imposed international sanctions, the energy industry of the Russian Federation faced the problem of preserving the resource of foreign-made gas turbine equipment due to problems with service maintenance and the provision of components. We are talking about about 23 GW of thermal power plants in the Russian Federation.

According to the System Operator, in October notifications about saving the resource of gas turbines were submitted by DGK JSC (part of RusHydro), Inter RAO – Power Generation Management, Lukoil-Astrakhanenergo LLC, Lukoil-Stavropolenergo LLC, PJSC Mosenergo LLC, TGC-1 JSC, Enel Russia PJSC, Unipro PJSC.

The Supervisory Board of the “Market Council” (regulator of energy markets) has recently adopted amendments to the agreement on joining the wholesale market trading system, related to taking into account the resource savings of gas turbine units. The amendments bring the rules of the wholesale market in line with the September resolution of the Russian government on the regulation of saving the resource of foreign gas turbines. According to the document, the austerity regime will last until the end of 2023. The regulation comes into force on 1 October.

Until October 4, the System Operator plans to publish a list of energy districts for which it will be established that there are risks of reducing the reliability of energy supply to consumers.
