Samsung presents its Odyssey Neo G8 monitor, the first 4K @ 240Hz monitor with MiniLED display

Samsung says the Odyssey Neo G8 is the world’s first monitor to offer 4K resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate. The Neo G8 uses Samsung’s Quantum Mini-LED technology in its 32-inch panel and features an immersive 1,000R curvature.

The monitor is one of three new Samsung models that will be on display at CES 2022.

The new Odyssey Neo G8 is built to a similar design to the Odyssey Neo G9, offering a sleek white exterior that stands out even when powered off. Center lighting on the back of the monitor automatically detects colors on the screen and projects them into real life to create a sense of deeper immersion.

Samsung notes that the monitor has a response time of 1 ms (GtG) and, in terms of ports, the monitor features two HDMI 2.1 and a single DisplayPort 1.4 connection. As expected, it supports Nvidia G-Sync technology and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.

With these specs on a monitor, modern AAA games will need more than an RTX 3090 to run at 4K @ 240Hz without the need to noticeably adjust the quality.

In addition, Samsung has also announced two other monitors, the M8 focused on connectivity and S8 focused on content creators. The first is an ultra-slim 11.4mm 32-inch UHD monitor that features a SlimFit magnetic webcam for teleconferencing and streaming games. It also comes with a dedicated remote control and a 65W USB-C port.

The S8, meanwhile, is a 4K monitor, coming in Display HDR 600 certified 27-inch and 32-inch sizes on the larger model. It uses a matte, glare-free screen and is aimed at content creators looking for a simplified workstation. To that end, Samsung has added built-in LAN support and 90W USB-C charging for laptops and phones.

All three monitors will be officially announced at CES 2022 this week, where the remaining specs, pricing, and availability information are likely to be revealed.
