Samsung works on DDR6-17000, 24Gbps GDDR6 +, and 32Gbps GDDR7 memory

During its Annual Technology Day, Samsung revealed great information about the upcoming technologies it is working on in the RAM business. New features include DDR5, DDR6, GDDR6 +, GDDR7, and HBM3, demonstrating that the South Korean company’s engineers are working hard on the latest technological advances.

On the DDR6 memory side, Samsung is preparing modules that range from JEDEC specifications of 12800MT / s to modules that reach 17000MT / s, marking a huge increase in bandwidth even compared to the newly released DDR5 modules, which at the moment they do not usually exceed 6000MT / s.

Moving to the side of memories for GPUs, Samsung also works on the new GDDR6 + memories, which unlike GDDR6X that simply raises the frequencies, also has some internal adjustments to improve bandwidth and stability. This type of memory is expected to reach a bandwidth of 24Gbps, so a GPU with a 256-bit bus will be able to reach a bandwidth of 768GB / s, which is an incredible figure.

In case GDDR6 + was not fast enough, Samsung is already working on the new GDDR7 standard, which will reach bandwidths of up to 32Gbps, with which a GPU with a 256-bit bus will reach a bandwidth of 1TB / s, a real madness.

Finally, Samsung confirmed that it plans to start producing its HBM3 memories in the second quarter of 2022, looking to compete against Hynix, which aims to start production around the same date.

What do you think about all these advances in the memory market that Samsung is preparing? Which of all these types of memory do you look forward to the most?
