Sapphire Toxic RX 6900 XT, extreme and limited by definition
Sapphire he has chosen the brand Toxic, which many of you will remember because it was used years ago to make one Limited Edition Radeon RX 6900 XT (in Europe the list price is 1600 euros) which wants to represent the not any more among the custom solutions of AMD partners. The card shows up with an air-liquid “hybrid” cooling system.
The liquid part serves to cool the GPU, and is linked to a radiator also me 360mm with three 120mm fans. According to Sapphire, this solution “keeps the GPU temperature below 70 ° C and the noise below 34 dBA. The air part instead serves to cool the other components on the PCB, from the VRM to the memory: there are dedicated radiators and heatpipes, as well as a hybrid fan that “combines the advantages of axial and blower fans”: silence and strong pressure to channel the air downwards, ie towards the printed circuit, to ensure optimal cooling without compromising noise.
Obviously there is no lack of a heatsink cover with ARGB LEDs, but also logo and blackplate are illuminated, without forgetting the fans on the radiator. Sapphire TriXX software allows you to customize the lighting between various modes, but the board also comes with a 3 pin connector for synchronization with the motherboard lighting.
As for the power section on the PCB, the card has a total of 18 fasted VRM, 14 of which are dedicated to the GPU and two to VRAM. The connection to the power supply is made via two 8-pin and one 6-pin PCIe connectors.
BIOS | Game Clock | Boost Clock | Memory | TGP |
---|---|---|---|---|
Performance + Toxic Boost | 2400 MHz | 2660 MHz | 8400 MHz | 330 Watt |
Performance | 2135 MHz | 2365 MHz | 8000 MHz | 289 Watt |
Silent | 2105 MHz | 2340 MHz | 8000 MHz | 281 Watt |
The Sapphire Toxic RX 6900 XT is equipped with due BIOS, one Performance and one Silent. As for the frequencies, the BIOS Performance arriva a 2365 MHz in Boost Clock e 2135 MHz in Game Clock, con un TGP di 289W. The mode Silent reduces the frequencies (2105 MHz for the Game Clock and 2340 MHz for the Boost Clock) and raises the temperature limit in order to keep the fan rotation at lower speeds. The card’s TGP also drops slightly to 281W. You can switch between the two modes with a switch or from the TriXX software.
Furthermore, activating the Toxic Boost mode from the Sapphire software (a profile that is nothing more than an automatic OC) you access even more power, with a TGP that goes up to 330W and frequencies in Game and Boost Clock reaching respectively 2400 e 2660 MHz. Memory is also overclocked. Sapphire has published some values recorded by putting the video card under load with Metro Exodus, you can see them in the table below:
BIOS mode | TGP | GPU Edge | GPU Junction | VRM | Memory | Noisiness |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Performance + Toxic Boost | 332 watt | 66 ° C | 80 ° C | 63,4 ° C | 64,9 ° C | 36 dB |
Performance | 289 watt | 60 ° C | 72 ° C | 67,1 ° C | 64 ° C | 32 dB |
Silent | 281 watt | 65 ° C | 76 ° C | 67,5 ° C | 72 ° C | 30 dB |
Finally, like the other cards on the market, the Sapphire Toxic RX 6900 XT does not miss four video outputs, one HDMI 2.1 and three DisplayPort 1.4.
