Scythe Kotetsu Mark II TUF Gaming Alliance cooling test

Almost a year ago, we had the opportunity to introduce you to the Scythe Kotetsu Mark II cooling test. The company has since updated its series and joined the TUF Gaming Alliance. Are the changes only in appearance and the performance remained the same?

Already after the packaging you can see that the cooling belongs to the Asus accessories series. Together with it, we receive an instruction, an assembly kit, a small amount of paste and 4 clips for fans. The assembly is very easy and pleasant, as is always the case with Scythe. Four clips mean you can add one more fan. Among the additions, I did not have a backlight controller, but this can be explained by the purpose for Asus motherboards that support Aura backlight.

Cooling looks great. At the top there is an overlay in the colors characteristic of the TUF Gaming Alliance. The fan itself is also backlit and can be controlled with the Asus Aura. Together, the whole thing looks great. The heat sink itself is no different from the regular version. Again, there is a base made for a mirror and four 6 mm heat pipes. The workmanship is very good.

The fan is a backlit Kaze Flex 120 PWM model. Its parameters are the same as in the case of its predecessor, i.e. a maximum of 1200 RPM, 51.17 CFM and 24.9 dBA. The difference concerns the colors and the additional RGB 4 pin output, which can and even should be connected to the motherboard.

Tests and summary

The cooling test was very similar to the previous version. The differences are minimal and are more likely to result from measurement errors than from actual differences. Cooling is therefore very efficient in terms of its design and relatively quiet. It may be heard at 1200 RPM, but it will be a slight breeze rather than a hurricane.

Scythe Kotetsu Mark II TUF Gaming Alliance costs about $ 40, or about PLN 150. If it goes to Poland, the price will certainly be higher. In my opinion, it has one drawback – the lack of an attached controller that would increase the interest in cooling. Besides, it’s great. Thanks to the backlight and a special design, it looks great and will look great in the housing with a window. The performance is great for such a construction, I also positively assess the work culture. If Polish stores do not exaggerate with the price, the Scythe Kotetsu Mark II TUF Gaming Alliance will be a great choice for people looking for RGB cooling under Asus and counting on good performance results.
