Scythe Katana 5 cooling test

Scythe Katana 5 cooling test

Another cooler from Scythe, which was recently introduced, is the Katana 5 model. Are you curious how it fares in the tests?

Appearance

The cooler is packed in a small cardboard box. Together with it, we receive a paste, instructions and an assembly kit. The assembly is carried out on standard Intel pins, so there is no difficulty in it. Additional accessories are only needed when mounting on a different stand. The warranty is 24 months.

Cooling looks completely normal – nothing stands out. The top is silver and there are caps on the fins, so we cannot be ashamed of this construction. Katana 5 measures 105 x 104 x 135 mm and weighs 560 g. The stand is made for a mirror and its dimensions are 38 mm x 38 mm. There are three heat pipes coming out of it. Cooling is shifted to one side for compatibility with RAM memories. The workmanship is good.

Tests and summary

Summary

The cooling of the Scythe Katana 5 completely surprised me with its performance – it is much better than what I expected. Katana 5 easily beats other, similarly built constructions and can easily cope even after the CPU’s OC. At maximum speed it is unfortunately loud, but at 1500 RPM it is good.

Scythe Katana 5 is not yet available in Polish stores, but this should change soon. The price should then be around PLN 130. Cooling surprised me with its efficiency and at such a price is second to none. This is paid for by a low work culture at the highest speed, but the fan will not always run on them. The cooler is also well made and generally I have nothing to complain about. With such performance at a low price, it should be your number one choice.
