Serious vulnerability discovered and fixed in Libra project

The cryptocurrency audit company OpenZeppelin reported the detection and correction of a serious vulnerability in the Move language developed by the social network Facebook for the Libra project.

“Vulnerability in the Move IR compiler allows criminals to integrate malicious code into smart contracts, and they can be disguised as developers comments,” said Demian Brener, CEO of OpenZeppelin.

“We discovered and fixed the vulnerability before the project was launched. Vulnerabilities that were considered harmless can become more serious in the blockchain, as the block chain verifiability is more important than trust relationships. ”

Brener also stressed that the vulnerability was discovered on August 6. For a month, the developers studied the problem and on September 4, an update was released for the Libra source code, covering the vulnerability.

“We see how huge and complex such systems are, and Libra will be only the first of the legion of stablecoins. Such systems will manage millions of dollars owned by billions of people. It is important to know what exactly such systems are, and users should be aware of the potential of such projects, ”said the OpenZeppelin CEO.

Facebook announced yesterday that when launching the Libra project, a basket of currencies to provide stablecoins might include the US dollar, euro, yen, British pound and Singapore dollar. Chinese yuan is not included in this list.
