Snapchat app launched an analogue of TikTok

The popular Snapchat app has a new feature that resembles TikTok in concept. The innovation is called Spotlight. It is intended for viewing short videos that scroll vertically.

An individual video feed will be generated for each Spotlight user. For this, the service uses special algorithms designed to select the most interesting content. In turn, the ranking of new videos is based on various parameters: video viewing time, the number of positive ratings, and others. According to the developers, the algorithms also take into account negative factors, including the frequency of stopping the video or skipping the video before starting playback. It is worth noting that the recommendations tab in TikTok is formed in a similar way.

It is also known that there are no public comments in Spotlight, so users will not be able to discuss the video, but the feed will not be left unattended. Moderators will check all new videos for compliance with the rules and principles of the site.

The developers recommend publishing videos up to one minute in length. At the same time, videos can be supplemented with music from the service library and various visual effects. The videos will be available to users in the feed until the author decides to remove them from the platform. Snapchat plans to motivate users with cash rewards for viral and popular videos in the new feed.

Spotlight is currently available on Android and iOS in Germany, Sweden, Norway, Australia, USA, Canada, France, Denmark, New Zealand and Ireland. In other countries, the new function will be launched some time later.
