Soon Intel will agree with TSMC on the 3nm process

We just found out that TSMC has started the risky production of 3nm pilot-style chips, working with Apple and Intel. The DigiTimes report directly mentions this and further indicates that Intel Corporation executives are expected to visit Taiwan later this month to finalize orders for the 3nm process.

Intel clearly wants to make sure that it is first in the line for systems produced in the 3nm TSMC technology, but in fact it is probably still behind Apple, which very, very much “likes” TSMC with reciprocity. Of course, this does not mean that only TSMC has the ability to produce in such an advanced process, because Samsung Foundry is also striving for the same, which expects to start production in the 3nm process in the first half of next year.

It just so happens that AMD and Qualcomm are more interested in Samsung products, which is a bit surprising especially in the case of the former, because currently TSMC is producing for AMD. However, there are chances that AMD, after not a very successful year with deliveries from TSMC, will bet on a less crowded Samsung, which NVIDIA did, thanks to which it better protected itself against the problem with GPU supplies for its graphics cards.

Returning, however, to the most important thing, Intel’s cooperation with TSMC in the 3nm process has been talked about since January 2021. Chances are that Intel will commission TSMC to produce not only graphics processors, but also matrixes for server processors (not only in 3nm), as a supplement to the production capacity of its factories in the USA. .
