Surface Neo and Windows 10X are late: they will not arrive at the end of the year

The news is not yet official, but it is reported by sources that can be considered reliable, starting from Mary Jo Foley of ZDnet. The reason that caused slowdowns in development is easy to understand: unfortunately the pandemic is slowing down the activities of many companies worldwide and Microsoft is no exception.

According to rumors, Panos Panay (Microsoft's Chief Product Officer) informed staff yesterday of the decision to postpone the launch of the Surface Neo to one date still to be fixed, but that however, it will not fall in the current year. Microsoft originally planned to market the Neo over the holiday season.

Microsoft's priority at this stage is to optimize the Windows 10X operating system for single screen devices; only later will investments be made in adapting the OS to dual-screen terminals, such as the Neo.

The further effect of the change of plans is that Microsoft partners will also need to review their plans: Surface Neo was expected to kick off a new category of dual-screen devices with Windows 10X, but even for these products inevitably a debut is expected which will take place not earlier than next year.

The Surface Duo is different that just yesterday he returned to the headlines with the publication of the first test shot: at the moment the development of the the project continues as initially planned and the terminal is expected to debut regularly by the end of the year.
