Swedish seismologists named the cause of the gas leak at Nord Stream

MOSCOW, 27 Sep — PRIME. Seismologists from Uppsala University in Sweden believe that the gas leak incidents at Nord Stream were due to explosions, not earthquakes or landslides, Reuters reports.

Two powerful underwater explosions thundered in the area of leaks at Nord Stream

According to seismologists, the explosions occurred in the water. According to their estimates, the second explosion in terms of power corresponds to the equivalent of 100 kilograms of dynamite.

On Monday, Nord Stream 2 AG reported that on one of the lines of Nord Stream 2 (it was filled with technical gas after construction), an emergency occurred in Danish waters near the island of Bornholm, accompanied by a sharp drop in pressure. The reasons are unknown, an investigation is underway, the company specified. Then Nord Stream AG, the operator of Nord Stream, reported on the pressure drop on both lines. The reasons are also not known.

The work of Nord Stream has been suspended since the end of August due to problems with the repair of Siemens turbines caused by Western sanctions. However, the pipeline remained filled with gas.
