Take a look at the actual turrets from the House Viewing Portal

Anyone who has played even one of the two installments of the Portal series from Valve perfectly remembers the characteristic white turrets, from which it was easy to get hit for inattention. In real life and in home use, no one normal will not create a deadly weapon, but the camera system is something else. This role has recently been given to the Portal turrets as part of the Sentry Picam project.

Functional towers from the Portal will guard your home

On Reddit, you can find detailed information that explains both the project itself and how to get your own Portal Turrets. However, I warn you – it is not that simple. It requires a printout from a 3D printer, a programming knack and a Raspberry Pi Zero W and Raspberry Pi Camera Module V2. The power supply can in turn be provided either by a battery or by a cable led directly from the power grid.

In fact, these Portal turrets are interesting mainly for the housing of all electronics, because it includes the body of the opponent invented for the game. After it is printed (project available on Thingiverse) it becomes home to the two chips mentioned and possibly a battery, of which Camera Module V2 provides recordings in Full HD and 30 FPS, which it performs when motion is detected.

In addition, the user can at any time get a preview of what is currently “seeing” the turret through a non-standard network interface.
