AMD definitely does not intend to fall asleep on its laurels. Since the first generation of Ryzen CPUs released in 2017, the manufacturer has evolved its architecture by hurting Intel more and more, especially on the IPC in addition to having a much higher number of cores in the mainstream segment. After the launch of Zen 2, which marks the third generation of Ryzen and CPUs from 6 to 16 cores, we finally have the right to the entry-level quadcore, the Ryzen 3 3100 and 3300X! Offered at respective recommended prices of 110 to 130 €, they finally come to plug the entry-level hole monopolized by the Core i3 9100F for months now.

We are therefore faced with the first Ryzen quadcores engraved in 7 nm (the Ryzen 3 3200G and 5 3400G use an old architecture), PCIe 4.0 is supported and the memory controller natively manages DDR4 up to 3200 MHz. . It is of course possible to run faster memory, like the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 3600 MHz DDR4 kit that we tested previously. If you are thinking of opting for a high frequency kit however, we can only invite you to follow the compatibility list of the different kits on the site of the manufacturer of your motherboard. Otherwise, you are likely to find yourself facing a black screen and a machine that refuses to restart once the DOCP profile is activated (the equivalent of Intel XMP).

AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs are based on a 12nm engraved I / O controller and one or two CCDs, each up to 8 cores. Each of these CCDs is made up of one or two CCXs which accept up to 4 cores. Apart from the Ryzen 9 3900X and 3950X which have 12 and 16 cores, all Ryzen 3000 CPUs are equipped with a single CCD. For Ryzen 5 hexacores, there is a full CCX with 4 cores and a second with 2 cores. You could say that the Ryzen 3 would therefore be equipped with a single CCX of four cores, but if this is the case for the 3300X, the 3100 is somewhat different. Indeed, the latter has two CCX, each equipped with two cores. This is certainly a way of recycling faulty chips from more high-end models and thus limiting losses.

Side frequencies, the two animals are quite close to the other models of the family. The ryzen 3 3100 runs from 3.6 GHz base to 3.9 GHz in boost mode while the 3300X goes from 3.8 to 4.3 GHz, both included in a TDP of 65 Watts. The main novelty of these Ryzen 3 is the presence for the first time of the SMT (equivalent of the Intel HT), bringing the number of threads from 4 to 8. This is a good thing for those who would like to have a little more performance during video encoding for example or any other activity taking advantage of a large number of cores. However, Intel is following the same trend with its future Core 10,000s, it would have been a shame to find itself with Ryzen CPUs deprived of SMT.
