Newcomer to the power supply market Cyonic aims to provide high quality products for “enthusiasts” and gamers, in an environment which is really very crowded with dozens of competitors who are fighting hard to market it. have to offer power supplies that have everything going for them, otherwise it is a safe bet that it will not be a success! The choice of OEM is a crucial point to offer good quality products, so Cyonic went directly to these gentlemen from Seasonic to get their supplies, a first good point that is difficult to criticize.
Today I am going to tackle an 80Plus Gold certified and fully modular model with a power of 650 Watts, I named the AU-650x! Offered at a price of $ 99.99 (for € 118.99 here at recommended retail price) we are very slightly below what is done for a completely modular power supply of the same category, let’s see what the beast has in the belly!

The front of the box presents very well and as you can see is predominantly yellow, we find the make, the model, a photo of the beast as well as a small mention of its compactness and the “silence guard” system. (which is none other than an FDB fan and radiators designed so that the power supply remains silent). No pompous marketing touting the merits of the beast, and that’s a very good thing!

At the rear, a listing of the main strengths of the AU-650x, namely total modularity, compact unit, advanced temperature monitoring, compliance with current standards and rigorous protections. Again, no “this is the best food in the world”, my little eyes thank Cyonic!

On the sides there is a table of the power distribution (we learn that we have 648 Watts on the 12V, which represents the totality of the power for which it is sold) as well as a listing of the cables as well as their lengths. All the information here is useful and will give future buyers a good idea of what they are buying.

By opening the box we come across the bundle placed on the different manual / guide. Below these we see a familiar vision, in fact the block is sandwiched between 2 foam molds identical to the Seasonic power supplies!

As we can see Cyonic offers here a really very correct bundle for a power supply, in addition to the very sufficient quantity of plastic cable ties we are entitled to 3 scratch cable ties with the image of the brand as well as the manuals, screws and 2 stickers (2 colors, just in case!). There isn’t much to say and I don’t see what more could be added.

Here is the beast! We can not say that Cyonic is extravagant, a black color with a grainy touch of very good quality, but we see above all that for 650 Watts the unit is really very compact, more than a Seasonic G for example or many of its competitors. Let’s take a closer look!

On the top we find a grid in the form of bars hiding the 12 cm fan responsible for cooling the entrails of the beast, on this grid is affixed the logo of the brand, we can hardly be more sober!

Below is a sticker presenting the power distribution table as well as of course the usage logos and the brand / model.

On the side the mark is engraved in the sheet, accompanied by the model and the logo in purple, it is not necessarily very easy to read but it has the merit of being discreet. No matter which way the power supply is installed the inscriptions will not be upside down, which is a good thing.

Total modularity requires that we only find connectors here, 2 for the 24-pin cable, 3 for PCIe / CPU as well as 3 others for Sata / Molex peripherals. We can find the number of locations quite small but in the end it will be more than enough for 99% of the configurations on the market, the goal being to be functional and not to have as many outlets as possible!

At the back, a large honeycomb grille is responsible for dissipating heat, nothing out of the ordinary here, the brand’s logo is also present.

We are indeed in the presence of a Seasonic platform here, but which is a new model which is not (yet) present in the brand’s other power supplies, only the Evga GS (new models) use this platform for the moment. On the program are 100% Japanese certified 105 ° capacitors from the best brands on the market. You can also see that everything is tightly packed in there on a “small” PCB.

The ventilation is entrusted to Hong Hua with its model HA1225M12F-Z, the same as that fitted to the Seasonic Snow Silent 750, 120mm rotating at a speed of 2050RPM maximum for a consumption of 5.4 Watts, an “FDB” model ensuring lower noise with a ball bearing while keeping a very long life.

As we can see the quantity of connectors is very sufficient, 4 x PCIe 6 + 2-pin, 8 x Sata, 5 x Molex and 1 adapter for floppy drive, enough to power a very large machine based on SLI / Crossfire . The length of the cables is also very good especially for the 4 + 4-pin CPU cable which is generally the one that causes the most problems in large towers, there with its 65 cm there will be no problems!
The cables themselves are the cables found on all Seasonic modulars, namely black and flat of very good quality, I still prefer braided cables in terms of look, but that is only aesthetic!

We start very well here at Cyonic with a power supply sold for a 650 Watts and which delivers 648 Watts (54A) only on the 12V, which is unfortunately not often enough the case knowing that a PC these days use very large majority the latter. The 3.3V and 5V combined have 100 Watts and the -12V 12.5 Watts. To summarize, with all this available power the Cyonic AU-650x will be able to withstand 99% of the configurations on the market without any problem, no offense to those who jump directly on 850 Watts models for the R9 290X for example 😉

80Plus Gold forces the efficiency to go up to 92% at 50% load (on 230V in Europe, 90% on 115V) which should greatly help the power supply to remain at a logically very low noise level because the heat at evacuate will be much less than a model with a less good performance. The ventilation is entrusted to a fan “FDB” from Hong Hua which should prove particularly silent (as long as it does not turn fully of course!).
Cyonic hits hard on another point, dimensions! Indeed when we find the vast majority of ATX power supplies (especially modular) around 16 cm in length the AU-650x for its part is content with 14 cm, which should make it a very popular power supply in a box where space is scarce (like the Cougar QBX for example).

The test protocol

The core i7 875K has been slightly overclocked to 3.2Ghz. The load readings were taken at the outlet during an OCCT Power Supply test, the idle readings were taken after 15mins on the desk.

The consumption

Before starting, let’s take a look at the performance of the power supplies compared to the Cyonic AU-650x, indeed the different 80Plus certifications will directly influence the consumption, so this will be a good way to have concrete results. Only the S12 600 (this did not yet exist at the time of purchase (but the following versions of this power supply had the classic 80Plus certification, so 80% / 80% / 80% at respectively 20% / 50% / 100% of load)) and FSP Hyper M 500 do not have 80Plus certification.

At rest the consumption is really very measured with its 75 Watts, indeed it is much better than the majority of the other 80Plug Gold power supplies in the comparison, so very good!
Under load and with 351 Watts the Cyonic AU-650x is also placed very well, ahead of some models but we are talking here of a maximum of 5 Watts. Basically the announced yield is well respected.
However, and like many power supplies tested in the comparison, it is not pushed to its limits but it perfectly represents what a current high-end gamer configuration consumes.

Note that the consumption was read at the plug and for the complete configuration, under load for example and on the 351 Watts “drawn” to the socket the components only consume approximately 324 Watts of the 650 Watts available.

The tensions

The voltages are stable here, we are not at the level of the best power supplies (and the most expensive of course) but there is clearly nothing to complain about, the 3.3V goes from 3.36V at rest to 3.32V under load , the 5V goes from 5.06V to 5.04V and the 12V from 12.15V to 12.13V, in other words that the test configuration does not scare the little news in the least.

For the moment the Cyonic does not disappoint, but there remains a crucial point when buying a power supply, the sound level! If the other components are not studied for silence then there are generally not really any questions to ask, otherwise it could be a criterion just as important as the stability and / or the efficiency, so let’s see that right now!

Noise pollution

Warning: Part to be taken with a grain of salt, unfortunately not having access to the appropriate equipment and using an android application to take the readings the measurements below are only indicative! The readings were taken 15cm from the feed.

The result has fallen, the silence is very present! Indeed at rest the power supply does not raise the sound level and everything remains at 31 dB, once in charge it is difficult to climb to 32 dB, which is, we can say, quite silent and it will not be done in no case hear over other PC components.

The fan emits no extraneous noise (motor, buzzing, sizzling) and is completely silent. The power supply itself also presents almost no parasitic noise (electronic noise type, like Coil Whine for those who know), we can see that Seasonic worked well on this point because it was present on all models as far away. that I remember, it is very good!

Here we are at the end of this test, what about the Cyonic AU-650x?
As you have surely understood throughout the test, I was won over by this new power supply, in fact in addition to the manufacturing quality inherent in Seasonic products, the finish is very good, stability is essential, the yield is very good (thank you for the 80Plus Gold certification), the silence is clearly there and its compactness means that the Cyonic AU-650x has everything to be great!

Yes well there is something wrong suddenly, nothing is perfect in this world! Well indeed, it is not yet available in France! The price is known (for a few days), 118.99 € in Europe, even if the services are good and the price is in line with what the competition does, the block will have some difficulty breaking through, especially knowing that the brand is totally unknown, 99.99 € would have been much more interesting to strike a little and give a boost to the beginnings of the brand in France. This does not detract from the capabilities of the beast that said, which is able to power a large gamer config without batting an eyelid and guaranteed for 5 years, which will ensure a certain durability.
