After the test of the atypical and very classy In Win 904 I am going to present to you today its little brother the In Win 901! Basically we take the 901 and put it in the mini-ITX format, so a smaller, lighter box but while keeping its excellent quality and its functionalities. Let’s see what the little one has in store for us!

The In Win 901 is first of all aluminum with a 4mm plate surrounding the case, 1.6mm thick aluminum inside and 2 tempered glass panels. The materials are really a very big strong point of the 901. The dimensions are rather contained, 35cm in height for 40cm in length and 17.3cm in width, it is rather large for the mini-ITX but the compatibility with ATX power supplies up to at 20cm in length and 30cm graphics cards explain this size a little. With 6.71kg on the scale (against 12kg for the In Win 904) it is not a featherweight, 4mm aluminum and tempered glass oblige!
It will be possible to install 2 3.5 ″ / 2.5 ″ disks (hotswap bays) as well as 2 2.5 ″ disks and 1 5.25 ″ slim drive, which should be more than enough for a mini-ITX configuration which is intended to be compact. . Hotswap compatible 3.5 ″ removable racks can be pre-wired, which is really great and this feature should be present in more cases.

Offered at a price of around 150 € it is 10 € cheaper than its big brother the 904 and if it follows in its footsteps the quality of manufacture as well as the look should almost justify such a price, let’s see it all more closely !

Sobriety is in order here with a white card, only the model and the brand are present, thank you In Win for not attacking the buyer with tons of marketing slogans 🙂

On the sides of the box, sobriety is always the order of the day, with a listing of functions and complete characteristics. Still no excessive marketing here, I can only agree with it.

When opening the box we find 4 large pieces of foam that hold the case in place, the protections are excellent and the case is very unlikely to arrive damaged due to transport. the 901 is wrapped in a black fabric to protect it from scratches during transport, the glass will thank it! The bundle comes in a handy resealable plastic pouch, let’s take a closer look!

Here is the beast! The unique 4mm aluminum plate that covers the underside, the front and the top is the most beautiful effect and really gives a classy side to the object, the side panels in smoked tempered glass do not mar the classy side. The finish is simply perfect, no complaints, we feel that the quality is there. It’s time to take the owner’s tour.

The front facade shows a foolproof minimalism with the brushed aluminum of the most beautiful effect, only the In Win logo is present at the bottom left. It goes without saying that the front facade has its effect and will delight fans of minimalism.

On the sides, sobriety is once again the order of the day with black smoked tempered glass panels of the most beautiful effect held by 4 black hand screws, we can see the connectors at the bottom right. Be careful, however, the fingers mark instantly, so remember to clean well after handling!

2 USB 3.0 ports are present as well as 2 3.5mm jack ports to connect a headset, the power button is aligned and is inlaid, the pressure is very flexible and pleasant. The build quality is once again at the top.

At the rear there is a removable aluminum plate equipped with hand screws to be easily removed, the main purpose of this plate is to hide the cables and keep the continuity of the aluminum. You can also see the grille once removed, the build quality is still excellent and the fixed thumbscrews come in very handy.
The grid hides a location for a 9cm fan, 1 opening for the water-cooling pipes as well as the 2 extension brackets.

Above we find the brushed aluminum plate of the most beautiful effect, sober and of very good quality. Below the same brushed aluminum plate but equipped with 2 long rubber pads that will prevent vibrations from propagating to the surface on which the case is placed.

Under the connection is a removable cover allowing the installation of the one and only 5.25 ″ device in “slim” format, there is no doubt it will be well hidden and will not harm the look of the whole.

The dust filter is located below the connector and is removable and magnetic, I want to say that it is of a quality that I have never seen for a dust filter, In Win really has the attention to detail when it comes to quality.

Here is the interior of the beast! Quality once again at the rendezvous, several openings to pass the cables through the back of the motherboard, 2 racks for 3.5 ″ / 2.5 ″ drives (which are not quite identical to the 904, 2 2.5 ″ slots etc. Let’s take a closer look at all of this.

As for the 3.5 ″ / 2.5 ″ hotswap racks, they are kept in place by a side plate fitted with a hand screw, the whole is in aluminum and as usual of an irreproachable quality of manufacture. At the back everything is pre-wired, as requested by the people.
Only one complaint can be made, however, the absence of an anti-vibration system which will inevitably have repercussions on the sound level of the whole if a mechanical hard drive is installed, we will see that!

For 2.5 ″ drives / SSDs, all you have to do is unscrew the hand screw, screw the drive using the 4 screws provided and replace the plate in the case, nothing could be simpler! There is 1 vertical slot to the left and a horizontal one below the 3.5 ″ drive slot.

A removable drawer is there to accommodate the 12cm suction fan, just unscrew it using the hand screw, remove it, screw the fan into the drawer and put everything back in place, again nothing simpler.

Mini-ITX box requires there are only 2 extension brackets.

At the level of the exhaust ventilation there is only a location for the 9cm fan unfortunately, grid point here the ventilation (if you opt to add a fan) will therefore not be obstructed.

In terms of power supply, there is strangely much more space than on its big brother the 904, it will be possible to install a power supply worthy of the name without overwriting the cables, you will notice the small sticker that says that ‘the fan must be placed upwards, normal since there is no downward ventilation!

The internal cables are rather well supplied, we find the 2 Sata power cables, 3 Sata 2 cables for the hotswap modules and 1 for the 5.25 ″ slim reader at the bottom, 1 USB3 connector, 1 connector for the jacks and 1 cable for the LEDs, power button etc. The whole is black sheathed and is once again of an irreproachable quality.

The bundle of the In Win 901 is less supplied than its big brother the 904, no 24-pin 8-pin extension cables but this is not very important in a mini-ITX box, on the other hand the absence of a USB3 adapter – > USB2 can be problematic for some motherboards. Each type of screw is labeled and stored in its plastic bag, it’s high class!

The box will first be tested as original, i.e. without fans and then with a Noctua NF-A9 PWM in extraction and a Noctua NF-F14 PWM in suction, and this in 5V and 12V.

Here is the beast once mounted! It will be necessary to play with all the stratagems to hide as much as possible the cables at the back of the motherboard, in fact the space at the back is not very large, on the other hand the space between the power supply and the rest of the case being much larger than on the In Win 904 it will be possible to hide as many cables as possible here! The components were assembled without a hitch, the SSD is very easy to install, as well as the hard drive in its rack.

In order to test the box, I will carry out an OCCT Power Supply test for 30mins and then take the temperatures of the main components such as the processor (average of the 4 cores), the motherboard, the graphics card as well as the hard drive.
Regarding noise pollution, I will proceed as in the file on silent PCs namely 1 statement in front, right, left, rear and above. All these tests will be done as standard without fans and with the Noctua set to 5V and 12V.

Repos

At rest, the temperatures are quite good for the processor, motherboard and graphics card in the In Win 904, given the low consumption of the components, this is rather normal. The addition of fans lowers temperatures significantly, in 5V we gain 6 ° on the processor, 2 ° on the graphics card, 5 ° on the motherboard and 1 ° on the hard drive. In 12V we still gain 6 ° on the processor, 4 ° on the graphics card, 2 ° on the motherboard and 4 ° on the hard disk, we will see the impact that this will have on noise pollution.
It is clear that even at rest the addition of a fan is rather desirable, even if the PC does not necessarily need it.

In terms of noise pollution without the fans and in 5V the results are quite simply identical, the Noctua in 5V are completely silent in this configuration. In 12V on the other hand, the Noctuas are rather noisy and that is not necessarily worth the blow compared to the temperatures noted. A word about vibrations, as I said above there is no anti-vibration system for hard drives so the Raptor is obviously happy and a noise of vibrations is clearly heard.

The PWM fans take advantage of the additional air supply from the Noctua fans, we mass 1108RPM for the processor and 1262RPM for the graphics card in 5V at 950RPM and 1203 ° respectively, 5V of course representing the best performance ratio. / noise in our case.

Charge

You don’t have to be sighted to know that the temperatures under load are greatly affected by the air flow from the tower, indeed without fans the processor starts to get very hot with 80 °, 86 ° for the graphics card, 65 ° for the motherboard and 43 ° for the hard disk, the addition of fans is clearly recommended for a good lifespan of the components, especially the processor and the motherboard.
Once the Noctua installed, things are much better with a drop of 12 ° for the processor, 2 ° for the graphics card, 6 ° for the motherboard and 1 ° for the hard disk, since the fans are silent I cannot that very strongly recommend to add, especially as we will see below that lowers the sound level in the end.
In 12V, the Noctua fans do a very good job and save another 11 ° on the processor, 8 ° on the motherboard and 4 ° on the hard disk, the gains are there but at the expense of noise pollution.

In charge of the In Win 901 due to its small size and the constraints that this imposes on the coolers (processor and graphics card) the configuration is not silent, and this is normal given that the graphics card is equipped with cooling base and the processor of the “small” Silverstone AR06. The nuisances will be linked to the installed components more than to the box itself.
We note that with 5V fans the configuration is less noisy than without, and this is normal because the PWM fans will necessarily run less quickly, thanks to the air flow! In 12V on the other hand there is no change compared to the noise nuisance at rest, the fans make the majority of the noise.

There is a stagnation of the processor fan at 1550RPM whether with or without fans, the graphics card on the other hand benefits more greatly from the airflow by going from 3588RPM without fans to 3501RPM in 5V and 3301RPM in 12V.

Clearly turned towards the top of the range, on the one hand on its manufacturing quality but also on its functionalities but above all on its materials (aluminum and tempered glass, I remind you) the In Win 901 does not fail to seduce, it is sober while being very classy. Of course everything is not rosy, the lack of fans will make it almost essential to go to the cash register and the vibrations of 3.5 ″ hard drives are transmitted to the case very easily.

The In Win 901 can be found around 150 € which is already a nice sum for a case, 100% aluminum and tempered glass oblige. Even if the performances are not really top notch and despite the small flaws this case is clearly a crush if you are looking for impeccable quality and a look that will not leave anyone indifferent.
