The AMD Radeon RX 6700 series can come with 12 GB of memory

AMD’s long-awaited return to the performance segment in the graphics card market is in full swing, although the launch of the absolute top card Radeon RX 6900 is delayed until December 8. That the launch of the cards in the Radeon RX 6800 series did not go as planned could be seen from the results from Veckans Fråga where 500 people at the time of writing, over half of the respondents, stated that they tried in vain to order a new graphics card.

Access to AMD’s latest card among SweClockers members aside, the company is looking ahead – where the next stop, unsurprisingly, will be the Radeon RX 6700 series. Now the AMD leaker reports Patrick Schur that the upcoming cards use the graphics processor Navi 22, whose two variants are named XT and XTL. The higher-performing Navi 22 XT will most likely end up in the Radeon RX 6700 XT, and according to Schur will have a power consumption, TGP, in the range 186-211 watts.

Little brother Navi 22 XTL is instead housed by a supposed Radeon RX 6700, here the TGP also drops to 146-156 watts. Schur adds that the XTL circuit may have an even lower TGP value, but that he has not yet seen any products with lower specifications than just 146 watts. These TGP figures can be compared to the predecessors of the Radeon RX 5700 series, where the XT model consumed 225 watts, while the non-XT variant was specified for 180 watt TGP.

According to Schur, the memory amount for the Radeon RX 6700 series looks to be 12 GB, of the GDDR6 type. Where the Radeon RX 6800 series has proven to lose performance compared to Nvidia’s top models in higher resolutions due to a memory bus of only 256 bits, the RX 6700 models can get it even worse. The memory bus looks to be only 192 bits wide, which means a marked step down from the 6800 series’ total bandwidth of 512 GB / s.

As usual, neither the price nor the intended launch date are stated – but the intense graphics card autumn looks set to continue well into the winter, with new models like the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 Ti in the subjects.
