The cylindrical Spirit drone boasts a modular plug-and-play design

Ascent Aerosystems has unveiled its cylindrical Spirit drone, the highlight of which is evidently modularity, allowing it to expand significantly and change its capabilities. In its basic configuration, it is able to accelerate to 97 km / h in level flight.

Modularity – this is what the cylindrical Spirit drone boasts for professional use the most

Drones that are gaining in popularity can clearly be improved and depart from the most frequently chosen quad propeller design. Spirit is a great example of this, showing an idea of how to make a drone a versatile platform, freeing it from the complicated installation of various sensors.

The waterproof construction of the Spirit drone comes down to a cylinder, which is raised into the sky by two counter-rotating propellers in one line. They can be easily folded together with the four supports, so that Spirit takes up as little space as possible and begins to resemble… a thermos flask. A thermos that can be easily supplemented with a new module like a camera with stabilization, an infrared sensor or an additional battery – all you need to do is unscrew one side of Spirit and screw in a new module in its place.

Such a simple system allows the Spirit drone to fly with up to 4.5 kg of additional equipment, although of course it will have a direct impact on its capabilities, both in terms of range and the nature of the flight. At full load, one charge is enough not for 38, but 22 minutes, and when it comes to control, it can be done using both the controller and the autopilot system.
