MOSCOW, 30 Sep — PRIME. New measures by the European authorities due to high energy costs can be agreed on Friday and will be implemented as soon as possible, the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Josef Sikela, counts on this.
“Households and businesses need help now. I am sure that all the ministers of the member countries (EU – ed.) understand this, and that today we will be able to reach a political agreement and put measures in place as soon as possible,” he told reporters on arrival at the Extraordinary Council of Energy Ministers of the EU countries.
According to Sikela, this includes a reduction in demand for electricity, a cap on the profits of companies that generate electricity from cheap sources, as well as a so-called “solidarity contribution” from profits made in the fossil fuel sector.
