MOSCOW, 16 Sep — PRIME. The European Union supports the role and mission of the IAEA in ensuring nuclear safety at the Zaporozhye NPP. This was stated by the official representative of the EU Foreign Service Peter Stano.
In the Zaporozhye region, they expressed their disappointment with the IAEA resolution
“We support the role and mission of the IAEA when it comes to ensuring nuclear safety,” he told RIA Novosti, commenting on the agency’s resolution on the situation at the plant.
According to Stano, the European Union “again called on Russia to immediately stop hostilities around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, stop obstructing its work and harassing its personnel, and leave the area without delay.”
He added that the situation at the ZNPP “threatens a major nuclear catastrophe.”
On September 15, the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution demanding that Russia “immediately cease actions against and at the ZNPP.” There were 26 votes in favor of the resolution, two against, and seven abstained. Prior to this, the IAEA mission visited the station, two representatives of the agency remained there on a permanent basis. Russia’s Permanent Mission to International Organizations in Vienna called the resolution “anti-Russian” and noted that it did not say a word about the systematic shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
