MOSCOW, 11 Oct — PRIME. Russians abroad are likely to encounter problems with access to domestic resources when blocking some VPN services by Roskomnadzor, said Ruslan Permyakov, deputy director of the NTI Competence Center “Trusted Interaction Technologies” based on TUSUR.

Earlier Tuesday, the Telegram messenger reported that Roskomnadzor would restrict access in Russia to a number of popular VPN services in the coming days, including CyberChost VPN, McAfee VPN, Quark VPN, UltraSerf VPNm VPN Super Unlimited Proxy, ZenMate VPN, VPN Russia – Unblock Proxy , VPN HUB and many more.
According to the expert, the implementation of the initiative “will cause problems for Russians abroad with access to Russian resources.”
Permyakov noted that the department’s possible decision is due to the fact that such VPN services are used by hackers from foreign countries, including “to gain access to Russian state Internet resources.” However, he added that blocking by Roskomnadzor is not a guarantee that these VPN services will become unavailable for illegal purposes, as attackers will try to find alternative options.
At the same time, the analyst specified that much depends on how exactly Roskomnadzor will implement this initiative.
