The first energy from Hornsea 2. It is the largest offshore wind farm

The installation of the last turbine on the previously prepared foundations of the Hornsea 2 wind farm has recently been completed. Today, Orsted announced that it has acquired a unique, first energy from Hornsea 2, which will start operating on a full scale in 2022.

Although the (currently) largest wind farm will not start operating until 2022, the first energy from Hornsea 2 has already entered the grid.

We know everything about Hornsea 2. This solar farm, 89 km off the Yorkshire coast, developed by Danish company Ørsted, will provide energy to over 1.3 million homes in the UK. It will send it straight to them through more than 800 km of cabling, connecting to the national grid in the town of Killingholme.

Reaching First Power is an important milestone for the project and a proud moment for the entire team. Building a project of this size and scale is only possible through strong collaboration, hard work and dedication. Patrick Harnett, program director of Hornsea 2 said.

The entire wind farm generates as much as 1.32 GW of energy, which is 0.1 GW more than the sister project Hornsea 1, which is already operating at full speed. This installation consists of 165 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines with a capacity of 8.4 MW each, which has guaranteed Hornsea 2 the title of the largest wind farm in the world. However, work on Hornsea 3 and plans for Hornsea 4 are already underway.
