The Kremlin did not rule out sabotage at Nord Stream

MOSCOW, Sep 27 – PRIME. The emergency on the Nord Stream gas pipelines requires urgent investigation, and sabotage cannot be ruled out, said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

“Now it is impossible to exclude a single option. It is obvious that there is some kind of destruction of the pipe, and what caused it – here, before the results of the study appear, it is impossible to exclude at least some option,” he said, answering a question from journalists about presence of sabotage.

Peskov said that information about the accident on the gas pipeline came from both Gazprom and the pipeline operator. “This is very disturbing news, indeed we are talking about some kind of destruction in the pipe, it is not yet clear what kind,” he specified and stressed that this unprecedented situation could affect the energy security of the entire continent.

On Monday, the operating company Nord Stream 2 AG reported a sharp drop in pressure on the Nord Stream 2 line filled with technical gas. After that, a decrease in pressure was recorded on both threads of the Nord Stream pipeline. The Danish Maritime Authority has issued a warning to ships about a gas leak near the island of Bornholm. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

According to the operator, the destruction inflicted on the infrastructure is unprecedented, and it is currently impossible to estimate the timing of the restoration of the pipelines.
