According to the publication, two main scenarios of what happened are now being considered. According to the first, Ukraine is involved in the sabotage, which wants to increase the volume of gas transit to Europe through its territory.

The second version suggests that the Russian side may be involved in the incident. According to the newspaper, the accident at Nord Stream could cause additional uncertainty in the gas market and raise prices again, which will exacerbate the energy crisis in Europe.

On Monday, Nord Stream 2 AG reported a sharp drop in pressure on the Nord Stream 2 line filled with technical gas. After that, a decrease in pressure was recorded on both threads of the Nord Stream pipeline. The Danish Maritime Authority has issued a warning to ships about a gas leak near the island of Bornholm. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

The construction of Nord Stream 2, stretching to Germany across the Baltic Sea, was completed in September 2021. The pipeline operator is Nord Stream 2 AG, and Gazprom is the sole shareholder. The pipe, whose maximum capacity is 55 billion cubic meters per year, was filled with technical gas and fully prepared for the start of pumping. However, the certification of the project was frozen by the German regulator.

Active opponents of Russian gas in Europe are the United States and Ukraine, which prevented the construction of Nord Stream 2. At the same time, Moscow has repeatedly stressed that the gas pipeline is an exclusively commercial project that is beneficial to Europe.
