MOSCOW, Sep 1 — PRIME. Ukrainian troops are shelling the meeting places of IAEA experts in the ZNPP area, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
“From 8.00 Moscow time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been shelling the meeting point of the IAEA mission in the area of the settlement of Vasilyevka and the Zaporozhye NPP,” the military department noted, emphasizing that four shells exploded 400 meters from the first power unit.
The press service of the Ministry of Defense added that Kyiv’s provocations are aimed at disrupting the visit of the IAEA mission to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
Earlier on Wednesday, Energodar authorities reported shelling the city ahead of the arrival of the IAEA mission at the ZNPP. At the same time, the director general of the agency, who led the group, Rafael Grossi, expressed confidence that the mission could be completed safely.
Later, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal wrote that the visit of the IAEA delegation to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant was complicated due to the attempted offensive of Ukrainian troops in the south.
On Thursday, the head of the Energodar administration, Alexander Volga, said that a Ukrainian landing had taken place in the area of the city, and a fire defeat was inflicted.
