Rumors of new Geforce models in price ranges below SEK 4,000 are growing, and with the GTX 1060 on its way away, the launch of the next graphics card is near. By all accounts, the RTX series only goes down to RTX 2060, while more price-squeezed models instead of the suffix GTX – without support for new features such as ray tracing in real time.
Well-known Igor Wallossek is now publishing information on what’s to come on German Tom’s Hardware. According to Wallossek, these are two models that are imminent, of which Geforce GTX 1660 Ti which SweClockers was able to confirm while the other is named GTX 1660. Although the names speak of sibling models, they seem to differ a lot from each other.

According to the information, the Geforce GTX 1660 will be based on the graphics circuit TU116 and will have 1,280 CUDA cores, ie the same number as the GTX 1060. It is worth noting that the architecture Turing has a performance improvement of up to 50 percent compared to its predecessor Pascal in the GTX 1000 series, why a GTX 1660 despite the same number of cores should deliver better performance.
The clock frequency of the graphics card is set to 1,530 MHz at base and 1 785 MHz at boost, also an improvement over the GTX 1060 which in the reference version is at 1,506 MHz and 1,708 MHz respectively. This is flanked by a 192-bit memory bus with GDDR5 memory at an effective frequency of 8,000 MHz, giving the theoretical bandwidth 192 GB / s.
A model with 6 GB GDDR5 should be virtually confirmed, while a variant of 3 GB is more uncertain. However, the fact that a model with less memory has both been listed and registered with several manufacturers indicates that such a model is also underway. In such cases, it is reasonable that the GTX 1660 with 6 GB and 3 GB of graphics memory will be used as a direct replacement for the GTX 1060, which is delivered with the same capacities.
The second graphics card is the more talked about Geforce GTX 1660 Ti, which will take the step up to 1,536 CUDA cores. The model is said to have the slightly lower clock frequencies 1,500 MHz and 1,770 MHz at base respective boost, which is outweighed by the model’s 20 percent more CUDA cores.
This is indicated by a 192-bit memory bus with 6 GB of GDDR6 memory, similar to Nvidia’s latest RTX 2060. However, the clock frequency is slightly lower at 12,000 MHz, which gives a theoretical memory bandwidth of 288 GB / s instead of 336 GB / s.
As the Geforce GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1660 get different types of memory, the duo also have different circuit boards. Something that is particularly interesting with the Geforce GTX 1660 Ti is that the circuit board design (PG161) is shared with the RTX 2060. It should also mean that the graphics card is based on the same circuit, TU106, but even more scaled down and with the RT cores disabled.
Finally, it is written about a launch around Valentine’s Day, which takes place on Thursday 14 February.
