The Russians revealed why you can not use a fingerprint in a smartphone

MOSCOW, 21 Sep — PRIME. Using a fingerprint to unlock a smartphone reduces the security of the device, Group-IB digital forensics specialist Igor Mikhailov told Prime.

The Russians were told how to identify wiretapping through a smartphone

“The fingerprint can be copied (for example, from a glass cup) and reproduced on a polymer basis. Or the owner can be forced to unlock the smartphone by placing a finger, using force or psychological pressure,” he explained.

According to the expert, using complex passwords is the safest way to unlock your smartphone. All other methods of unlocking a smartphone – by fingerprint or with the help of a face – are less secure, Mikhailov noted.

He also said that cases of unlocking other people’s gadgets using “foreign” fingerprints are not uncommon, especially on smartphones with old fingerprint sensors. “Now the sensors have become more reliable, but, as practice shows, some smartphone manufacturers have refused to use them so as not to reduce the overall security of devices,” the forensic expert explained.

To increase the reliability of smartphone protection, the expert advises disabling fingerprint or face login and leaving only pin code login. “It should contain as many characters as possible that are not used anywhere else, for example, to enter applications, Internet resources,” he summed up.
