The specifications of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5000WX are filtered

A few days ago it was confirmed that the AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5000WX would arrive in March 2022, and now, a few days later, Igor’s Lab revealed the specifications of the five models that will make up this line, which will be headed by the 64-core Threadripper Pro 5995WX and 128 threads.

Based on what this list shows, the general specifications for cores, cache and TDP will remain the same as in the Threadripper Pro WX. That the cache is not increased makes it clear that these are models based on Zen 3 and not on Zen3D, which was a great doubt that there was. It is curious that it has taken so long to launch these processors when we have Zen 3 CPUs on the market for more than a year, although possibly AMD explains the reason after its launch.

Going back to specs, the Threadripper Pro 5995WX will have 64 cores and 128 threads with a boost frequency of 4.55GHz and a base frequency of 2.7GHz. Remember that the base frequencies in these CPUs with so many cores are usually much lower than normal, since otherwise their consumption would skyrocket and it would be very difficult to cool them. With this frequency it already has a TDP of 280W, which is quite high, so raising it even more would complicate its cooling in a server environment where there are usually two of these per motherboard.

This is followed by the Threadripper Pro 5975WX with 32 cores, 64 threads and 3.6GHz base frequency, the Threadripper Pro 5965WX with 24 cores, 48 threads and 3.8GHz base frequency, the Threadripper Pro 5955WX with 16 cores, 32 threads and base frequency of 4.0GHz, and finally the Threadripper Pro 5945WX with 12 cores, 24 threads and a base frequency of 4.1GHz. All of them have a 4.55GHz single-core boost and 280W TDP despite the fact that in reality their consumption is much lower in the cases of the models with fewer cores.

These new processors are expected to be announced at AMD’s CES 2022 conference on January 4. There will also be announced the new Zen 3D-based Ryzen, the new Zen3 + APUs for laptops, the Radeon RX 6400 and RX 6500 XT, and details on the Zen 4 and RDNA3 are expected to be provided.
