The web hall sells “standard cards” – unspecified Geforce and Radeon

There is a shortage of circuits of an unprecedented kind around the world. In connection with this, Nvidia and AMD launched their latest generations of graphics cards, which with their unusually large performance life have led to sky-high demand. In addition, hungry enthusiasts need to compete with miners about the few graphics cards that become available. According to Nvidia and TSMC, the shortage will last until 2022.

As a result, many consumers have placed orders for virtually every graphics card at multiple retailers, hoping to get one someday. Now Webhallen is taking a new approach in an attempt to meet demand without customers being forced to keep track of every single model on the market – purchase of “standard cards”.

When picking up a tailor-made computer at Webhallen, it is possible to place an order with a generic graphics card from Nvidia or AMD. The options are on the Nvidia side Geforce GTX 1650, GTX 1660, RTX 3060, RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070, RTX 3080 and RTX 3090, while those on the AMD side are Radeon RX 6700 XT, RX 6800, RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT.

The web hall calls the sales model a “standard card” and in short means when ordering a pre-built computer to add an unspecified graphics card from a performance segment, where one of the alternatives is Geforce RTX 3080 / RTX 3090. When one is in stock, customer service hears from you and tells which model or models it is about. The end customer can then decide whether they want one of the available graphics cards or rather wait for another.

One thing that stands out and that the Webhallen themselves point out is that the prices on each computer are higher than usual. According to the store, this is for practical reasons, as it is easier to adjust the price when an order is placed than to charge more afterwards. The web hall also adds that in normal cases they do not recommend invoicing over direct payment, but that in the current situation it is recommended to avoid being out with money for a longer period of time.

The web hall’s concept with “template cards” so far only applies to the Config series of ready-made computers. Whether other retailers will follow suit and whether we will see the same method applied to loose graphics cards remains to be seen.

Would you consider ordering a “template card” in a pre-built computer or loose? Discuss!
