Trezor takes away from the wallet shown on live TV by President Maduro of Venezuela

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro showed a hardware wallet from Trezor during a state television segment. SatohiLabs, the manufacturer of these wallets, has distanced itself from this.

Maduro is happy with the wallet

The report, which is also on the Facebook page of the president, takes an hour and is all about cryptocurrency. At minute 18, Maduro meets representatives of a company named Trezorvenezuela. They give him a hardware wallet and Maduro clearly shows his approval.

Copyright infringement

Satoshilabs responded by issuing a statement claiming they have no official representatives in Venezuela. Trezor clearly distances itself from Trezorvenezuela, they even accuse the South American party of copyright infringement.

“We are in no way affiliated with people who claim to be official representatives of Trezor and do not endorse or permit their use of our brand. We carefully investigate this copyright infringement. These people were Trezor’s authorized resellers based on a mutual agreement concluded in Q3 2018. We removed this reseller from our authorized reseller’s list in June 2019 due to inactivity. ”

Trezor says they have given 150 copies of the Trezor One to their close friends of the Bitcoin Venezuela organization. As far as Trezor can tell, none of these wallets has been donated to President Maduro.

Satoshilabs distances itself from Maduro

The company also stated:

“We want to emphasize our attitude to the political situation in Venezuela. Trezor and Satoshilabs do not associate with any political figure, serving or retiring, in Venezuela or in any other region. “

President Maduro is under fire at home and abroad. The United States now calls Venezuela a rogue state. The country has been hit by America using (or abusing) the dollar with harsh sanctions. In an attempt to get out of these sanctions, Maduro has ordered the creation of its own cryptocurrency: the Petro token.

Own crypto shilling

Maduro leads what many in the United States have called a “rogue state” and the country has been hit by crippling American-led sanctions – just like the country’s Petro token.

That was also the main subject of the one-hour video report. It was mainly about the Petro counters and ATMs. These can be found in all 23 branches of the Banco de Venezuela.
