UNICEF creates a donation fund for Bitcoin and Ethereum

The United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF has launched a donation fund for bitcoin and ethereum that will be used to support the development of open source technology.

UNICEF has stated that this crypto fund will receive contributions in cryptocurrencies and grant funding in the same form. There are already contributions from the Ethereum Foundation which will be distributed to three beneficiaries of the UNICEF Innovation Fund. The projects funded are those developed by Prescrypto, Atix Labs and Utopixar and focus on the following areas:

drug prescription tracking;
associating investors with those who need financing;
community tokens and involvement.

Aya Miyaguchi, the executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, told DevCon that 100 ethereum worth about $ 18,000 was donated to UNICEF through the new partnership.

“This is a new and exciting adventure for UNICEF,” said UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore. “If digital economies and currencies have the potential to shape the lives of future generations, it is important to explore the opportunities that they offer. “

UNICEF Crypto Innovation Fund

It is the latest initiative of the UN Children’s Agency to adopt blockchain technology. Earlier this year, UNICEF discussed with the government of Kyrgyzstan the possibility of using blockchain technology to provide internet access for schools in the country through the so-called Project Connect initiative.

In December last year, UNICEF said it is investing $ 100,000 in six blockchain startups to address global challenges through blockchain, from transparency to healthcare to managing finances and resources.
