Vietnam is selling hundreds of NVIDIA RTX A4000 for mining

After squeezing every last drop out of gaming-oriented graphics cards, miners seem to have their sights set on NVIDIA workstation GPUs. This week we discovered that a Vietnamese store, specializing in PC hardware, is selling RIGS complete with eight RTX A4000s, a video card that uses the GA104 GPU, the same chip that equips the RTX 3060 Ti and the RTX 3070 Ti.

Each RIG with eight RTX A4000s offers around 500 MH/s in Ethereum mining, plus it’s faster and cheaper than a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. Each plate reaches between 60-63 MH/s with a consumption of up to 125W with an average temperature of 60C. All cards are the standard model in this segment with a single fan and one slot.

The RTX A4000 has 16 GB GDDR6 and 448 GB/s of bandwidth. Despite the fact that the RTX 3070 Ti, a card that uses the same GPU, delivers more than 608 GB/s with 8 GB of memory, this variant has a TDP of 290W, well above the maximum 140W that the RTX can reach. A4000. Furthermore, the gaming-oriented GPU offers the same hash rate on Ethereum, consuming around 175 W, depending on the model. This makes the choice simple, everyone goes for the workstation oriented GPU.

With the cryptocurrency mining boom on the decline and graphics card prices starting to drop, seeing something like this of this magnitude is still surprising. In December, not too long ago, mining farms could be seen using various RTX 3070s. Four months later, gaming-oriented GPUs are swapped out for workstation-specific ones.

Also, the change in the way Ethereum is mined is expected to come sometime this year, making the graphics card market shine again for gamers. After the cryptocurrency becomes Ethereum 2.0, traditional mining with hardware (more specifically, graphics cards) will be unfeasible.
