Zakharova: EU should deal with nuclear security in the region, not visas

MOSCOW, 31 Aug – PRIME. Representatives of the European Union should now deal with the issue of ensuring security at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, and not with a visa ban for Russians, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

“This is what the efforts of the EU countries should seem to be directed to: to preserve the health and safety of their own citizens… but no… visas every day. these people don’t understand that it’s not the travel of citizens that is at stake now, but the issue of nuclear safety?” the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Sputnik radio.

ZNPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the city of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity. Since March, it has been guarded by the Russian military to prevent leaks of nuclear and radioactive materials.

The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Energodar, the surrounding villages and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city.
