About 1.2 million people in Mexico were left without electricity due to the earthquake

MOSCOW, 20 Sep — PRIME. About 1.2 million electricity consumers were left without power in five regions of Mexico as a result of a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that hit the country’s west on Monday, the Federal Electricity Commission said.

“The earthquake affected 1.2 million users in five regions. The service is restored by 68%, 8% of consumers of 14.6 million in these states were affected,” the bulletin, published on the commission’s Twitter blog, said.

According to the presented statistics, the capital and the state of Mexico City suffered the most – in the amount of more than 900 thousand consumers of electricity. Another 145 thousand – in the state of Colima, 106 thousand – in Michoacan, where the epicenter of the shocks was located, and 72 thousand – in the state of Jalisco.

The magnitude of today’s quake was 7.7, according to updated data from the National Seismological Service. At the moment, one death is known in the state of Colima and one injured in Mexico City as a result of the destruction caused by tremors.

New tremors occurred on the anniversary of two devastating earthquakes – 2017 and 1985. The latter also happened on September 19 in the state of Michoacan – then the magnitude was 8.1, more than 10 thousand people died.
