AMD confirms the arrival of the Ryzen 7000 plus the AM5 platform at the end of the year, they will have DDR5 and PCI-E 5.0

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D was not the only desktop-processor novelty that AMD announced during its CES 2022 conference: The company also announced that its new AM5 platform will arrive in Q4 2022, featuring Ryzen 7000 processors, the first processors for this platform. .

The AM5 socket will use an LGA format, having the pins in the CPU socket instead of the processor as in the AM4 platform, and will have a total of 1718 pins. In addition, the AM4 heatsinks will be compatible with the AM5 socket, avoiding having to replace the heatsink.

Regarding the processors for this platform, the first processors will be the Ryzen 7000 “Raphael”, based on Zen 4 at 5nm. AMD showed a small demo running Watch Dogs Legion at 5.0GHz, although without showing performance numbers, so we do not know what advantage it offers compared to current processors. These processors will also support DDR5 and PCI-E 5.0, catching up with Alder Lake in terms of I / O by incorporating these latest technologies.
